English film and television actor. Her role as Alexis Carrington in the US TV soap opera Dynasty (1981–89) brought her international fame, as well as a Golden Globe award in 1983.
She appeared in undemanding roles in a series of mediocre films for the Rank Organization 1952–55, and in Hollywood for Twentieth Century Fox 1955–62, appearing in, for example, The Virgin Queen (1955). In the 1970s she gained a glamorous and slightly disreputable reputation, especially after her role as an adulterous nightclub owner in The Stud (1978) and its sequel The Bitch (1979) – both of which were based on best-selling novels by her sister Jackie (1937–2015).
Collins was born in London and trained at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art (RADA). She made her stage debut at the age of nine in Ibsen's A Doll's House and her film debut in 1952 in Lady Godiva Rides Again. She received an OBE in 1997 and was made a Dame in 2015.
